BTEC Higher National Certificate in Business
Programme Outline
This is a two-year, part-time course that offers a broad business education leading to a nationally recognised qualification valued by employers. There are two modes of attendance possible: Tuesday day and evening, and also Tuesday evening and Thursday evening. (These modes are offered subject to demand and resource constraints.)
- Mature students welcome - Flexible entry requirements for those over 21 based on an interview with the Admissions Tutor.
- 18-21 year olds - BTEC National Certificate or Diploma in Business, an Advanced GNVQ, a BTEC National Certificate or Diploma of any other related title or at least one GCE A level pass, with appropriate supporting passes at GCSE at Grades A, B or C.
- Good mix of students - of all ages and working experience
- Three Core Units studied each year - together with two option subjects of your choice from those offered
- Exemptions from BA (Hons) degree modules - after completing the HNC, you can enter the part-time Business Studies Degree or the part-time Business Administration Degree with advanced standing.
- Assessment is by a mixture of ongoing course work, closed and open book examination and project work
- Skills Development Day - Early in Year 1 students attend a skill building day.
- Residential - In the second year students attend a residential event that is designed to develop team-building and decision-making skills and act as a vehicle for skills assessment.
- Enrolment Dates for First Year students will be on the 11th September, 2001, in the Staffordshire University Lichfield Centre, The Friary, Lichfield
- Information can also be obtained at open days and evenings - dates of which will be advertised in the local press.
- Course Aims
The BTEC HNC in Business aims to provide vocationally based education which can act as a foundation for a range of business careers and also for self-employment. The programme is designed to make students more immediately effective in current and/or future employment. It also provides a basis of transferable skills, personal qualities and attitudes to underpin the development of students' future careers.
