Computing Facilities at SULC

The Computer Suite consists of the Open Access Area (OAA) and six electronic classrooms. The Open Access Area is intended for students and staff to use as and when they want, for course work, practice, or anything else. Each of the classrooms contain 18-20 computers, plus one for the lecturer. The lecturer's computer is connected to an overhead projector, so that the whole class can see what is on the lecturer's screen without having to move from their seats.

The computers themselves are Toshibas and Digitals. All of them are running Microsoft Windows 2000, having been upgraded in January 2001 from Windows NT 4. All machines have Microsoft Office 2000 installed, comprising Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint, Photo Editor and Publisher. More specialised software is installed on groups of machines. All our computers are networked into the Staffordshire University system, and are permanently connected to the Internet.

The computing facilities can be used free of charge by all students of Tamworth & Lichfield College, whether on an IT course or not, and all members of Staffordshire University. They can also be used by members of the public, although for non-students a charge of two pounds per hour (or part thereof) is made.
